Terminal Island, New York: 2020. Overcrowding in the US penal system has reached a breaking point. Prisons have been turned over to a monolithic Weyland Corporation, which sees jails full of thugs as an opportunity for televised sport. Adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for violence and a spectacular, enclosed arena come together to form the ‘Death Race’, the biggest, most brutal event.

  • “Death Race” is an action movie that stays very true to it’s genre. It’s fast, brutal and painstakingly brilliant. The casting of Jason Statham as Jensen is pretty clever and inspired as this is the kind of roles he is best suited for, you know it’ll be about a righteous badass guy kicking the butt of all evil doers he finds. Tyrese Gibson is decent as ‘Machine Gun Joe’, while Joan Allen did the best with the material she was given. I found the story to obviously be a bit far fetched with it being people racing in a prison and all but never that didn’t ruin the movie at all and I ended up loving the storyline. Good movie to just sit back, stop thinking & enjoy, it’s one enjoyable thrill ride!
