Dave and Ronnie, Jason and Cynthia, and Joey and Lucy are close. The group used to include Shane and Jennifer, but they divorced and she’s gone. Jason and Cynthia announce that their marriage is in trouble, and they beg their friends (and Shane’s young girlfriend) to join them on a couples’ retreat, at the package rate, on a tropical island. The others reluctantly agree, planning to play while Jason and Cynthia work on their marriage with an island psychologist. To everyone’s surprise, the package is inflexible: each couple must participate in the couples’ exercises. Soon fault lines appear in all four relationships. What’s in store for each couple?

  • “Couples Retreat” was entertaining, but the problem is, it wasn’t that funny. For a comedy, there were only 3 laugh out loud moments. I didn’t find the trailer funny, and wasn’t really expecting much, but I had hoped that I might find some bright spots. I enjoyed the views of this fantastic tropical island, but of course that wasn’t enough to make a good comedy. I didn’t like the performance of Vince Vaugn neither, only the role of Malin Akerman was nice. The storyline/plot was pretty weak, you’ve seen something similar a couple of (dozen) times before, but only better… You can watch this movie once for the beautiful scenes, but for a good laugh you better pick another one!
