Arizona Dream (1992)

  • Time: 142 min
  • Genre: Comedy | Drama | Fantasy
  • Director: Emir Kusturica
  • Cast: Johnny Depp, Jerry Lewis, Faye Dunaway

An Innuit hunter races his sled home with a fresh-caught halibut. This fish pervades the entire film, in real and imaginary form. Meanwhile, Axel tags fish in New York as a naturalist’s gofer. He’s happy there, but a messenger arrives to bring him to Arizona for his uncle’s wedding. It’s a ruse to get Axel into the family business. In Arizona, Axel meets two odd women: vivacious, needy, and plagued by neuroses and familial discord. He gets romantically involved with one, while the other, rich but depressed, plays accordion tunes to a gaggle of pet turtles.

  • Clearly one of the best films of the 1990’s… if you have not seen all of this directors ( Emir Kusturica ) films yet you are in for a treat! Check out his other work ( Black Cat White Cat, Underground, While Father Was Away On Business, The Time Of The Gypsies ) all wonderful films that deserve a 10! In this film Johnny Depp proves why he is a great and possibly the most underated actor in the U.S.A. along side Faye Dunaway who is creative and moving as his love interest. Lili Taylor is also great in this one too, she steals some scenes in it as well, Vincent Gallo’s best work that I’ve seen, he is actually funny in a dead pan type of way. Jerry Lewis is wonderful as well, maybe his best work since King Of Comedy. You will not be disappointed in this one, a MUST see!
